NEW YORK — Citigroup Inc. is set to join the top tier of Wall Street investment banks advising artificial intelligence startup Anthropic PBC on its anticipated initial public offering, according to individuals familiar with the matter.
Citigroup is expected to join Morgan Stanley, Goldman Sachs Group Inc., and JPMorgan Chase & Co. among the lead underwriters handling the blockbuster listing. San Francisco-based Anthropic could file publicly for its IPO as early as the end of this month, with a market debut planned for this fall.
Securing a lead role on the high-profile transaction positions Citigroup to capture a significant share of underwriting fees while strengthening its standing atop equity capital markets league tables. Citigroup currently leads the 2026 U.S. IPO rankings, bolstered by its role in SpaceX's record $86.2 billion public offering earlier this year.
The move deepens existing commercial ties between the bank and the AI developer. Citigroup previously participated in a syndicate that arranged a $2.5 billion revolving credit line for Anthropic last year, a facility that source-backed reports indicate is expanding beyond a $10 billion target.
Deliberations remain ongoing, and additional syndicate members may be added prior to the official filing. Spokespersons for both Anthropic and Citigroup declined to comment on the underwriting lineup.
Anthropic and key competitor OpenAI have both submitted confidential IPO documentation as they prepare to list on U.S. exchanges, though Anthropic is projected to complete its listing first. The company's annualized revenue pace recently topped $65 billion, representing a more than sevenfold increase from late-2025 levels.
